The Coalition of Muslim Women of KW is conducting a hate crimes workshop for Muslim women next week.
The Coalition felt the need to conduct the workshop after incidents were discussed within the local Muslim community which were not being officially reported.
The workshop will help Muslim women understand what hate crimes are, how to report them, how to seek help, and how to prevent them.
Presenters include Saleha Khan, an instructor from the race relations and adult education unit at the Ontario Police College; Lee Fitzpatrick, director of community resources with the Waterloo Regional Police Services; and crisis responders from Victim Services of Waterloo Region.
The workshop is being held Nov. 23 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kitchener Downtown Community Health Centre,
44 Francis St. S.
The registration fee of $5 includes snacks and chilcare. To register call Sarah Shafiq at 519-884-0000, ext. 263 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
