Harold Albrecht, MP for Kitchener-Conestoga, recognized 14 citizens with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in a ceremony at Core Lifestyle and Recreation Complex on Sunday.
Recipients from Kitchener included Robert Berg for his commitment to supporting veterans; James Chmiel, supporter of the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony and United Way; Ingeborg Ford for her work in early literacy with Strong Start; Claude Gelbard for his involvement with Scouts, Cadets and other youth groups; Nabeel Rana, founder of the World Religions Conference; and Major Graham Walsh, formerly of Kitchener, a military reservist.
Other recipients were Robert Bontaine, Doug Ferguson and Margaret Macdonald of Baden; Kieran Kelly of Elmira; Edwin Lemont, Nancy Silcox and Wayne Simpson of New Hamburg, and David Westfall of New Hamburg.
Each MP has 30 jubilee medals to award, out of a total of 60,000 to be given out across the country by various politicians, organizations and community groups.
