For the Kitchener Post
Stephen White and Sandra Dunn are metal-working artists who have been working together for the past 13 years. They are partners in a business called Two Smiths, located in a shop in Kitchener.
Stephen is a master coppersmith who apprenticed in England. Over the past 40 years, he has also become an expert welder and tool maker. In this photo, he is planishing a copper bowl — smoothing and shaping the metal with a hammer.
Sandra is a blacksmith who began pounding hot steel 18 years ago at the Forge and Anvil in St. Jacobs. Here, she’s shaping a square bar into furniture hardware for a customer.
Both Stephen and Sandra have taught at the Haliburton School of the Arts and also offer short courses here in Kitchener. They both belong to the Ontario Artist Blacksmith Association.
