Child porn charges laid

A Waterloo Regional Police investigation led child pornography charges being laid against a Massachusetts man.

In December 2012, a 17-year-old girl reported crimes relating to an online relationship that began when she was 13.

Police say the man was 21 years old at the time of the relationship, but his true identity was unknown to the girl.

An investigation launched by local police led to the discovery of his identity. WRPS contacted police in Massachusetts, who executed a search warrant on Feb. 4.

The man was arrested and charged with three counts of disseminating child pornography, possession of child pornography, criminal harassment and threat to commit a crime.

Police are reminding residents to use caution when interacting with people online. Parents must educate children about the potential dangers of online predators and warn against giving an details or materials that may compromise safety or privacy, police say.
