Sarah Clarke lives and works in the Boardwalk community in west Kitchener, but when she started looking for a community group there, she couldn’t find one.
The neighbourhood, bordered by University Avenue and Fischer-Hallman Road, from Victoria Street to Ira Needles Boulevard, is home to many residents who have moved into newer developments.
They were drawn together during their battle against some aspects of a development on Countrystone Drive, and that group went on to form the new Boardwalk Neighbourhood Association.
“We are going to kick off with a winter carnival in February, and there will be monthly meetings,” Clarke said.
The Boardwalk Neighbourhood Association is the 30th such group in the City of Kitchener.
The city works with the volunteers who run these groups to help facilitate receation and leisure programming.
