No more local e-waste fees

The Region of Waterloo is no longer charging fees to residents for electronic waste recycling of less than 50 kg.

The fees paid by consumers when they purchase items such as computers, stereos, DVD players and other audio-visual equipment covers the cost of properly recycling these items.

They are banned from landfill and must not be put curbside for regular garbage collection.

As of July 1, televisions are also banned from landfill and curbside pickup.

The region is offering a one-month amnesty period, allowing residents to put TVs out with garbage collection until Aug. 1

E-waste items can be dropped off at the Cambridge or Waterloo transfer stations, or at certain Rona, Future Shop, Best Buy and Staples locations.
