Police investigate Activa Avenue house explosion

The cause of an explosion and fire that leveled a two-storey house on Activa Avenue on Jan. 27 is not yet known.

Waterloo Regional Police have also been called in to assist in the investigation after new concerns arose.

Chief fire prevention officer Tom Ruggle said the Kitchener Fire Department and Ontario Fire Marshal’s office have completed their work at the site.

“It will probably be some period of time before we get results back as to the cause,” he said.

In the meantime, the fire department is assisting in “getting normalcy back to the neighbourhood.”

Firefighters are visiting a school today to talk to students about what happened and help alleviate any fears they may have.

A community meeting is also being planned to answer questions for those who live in the area, just to the west of Fischer-Hallman Road.

Ruggle said people should not speculate on the cause of the explosion, and he encourages residents to maintain their own property to help prevent fires.
