Cameron Heights standout Liz McLellan was named a WCSSAA senior girls basketball first-team all-star on Thursday.
Waterloo Collegiate sharpshooter Lindsay Taylor was named league MVP. The second-year Grade 12 guard/forward helped lead her Waterloo Collegiate Vikings to an undefeated WCSSAA season, capped off with the school’s 13th senior girls basketball championship in 15 seasons.
Taylor was also the Vikings’ top scorer throughout the CWOSSA AAAA senior girls basketball championship tournament as WCI won its second straight district title and a No. 5 seed at the OFSAA AAAA girls basketball championship in London.
Two other Vikings were named to the first and second all-star teams, with Alex Klein picking up first-team honours and Julia Pavlik getting a second-team nod.
Other first-teamers include Southwood’s Nicole Barnard, Waterloo-Oxford’s Maddy Horst, McLellan and Jacob Hespeler’s Brooklyn Wright.
The second team featured Bluevale’s Natalie Bishop, Grand River’s Kailey DeBoer, Forest Heights’ Blair McNaughton and Preston’s Ashley White.
Honourable mentions went to WCI’s Kaylee Anagnostopoulos, Bluevale’s Sarah Hamm, Sir John A. Macdonald’s Malena McCrossan-Moses, Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate’s Olivia Nelles, Galt’s Ashlyn Beckman, Huron Heights’ Jenna Gangl, Waterloo-Oxford’s Alisha Glendinning, Southwood’s Kayleigh Hutt-Taylor, Cameron Heights’ Hunter Johns, Glenview Park’s Jocelyn Kivell, Eastwood’s Mel Samuel, Elmira District’s Krista Wiens and Jacob Hespeler’s Candice Wright.
District 8 all-stars
The District 8 girls basketball all-stars were announced last week.
Phoenix players Sarah Schulz and Celia McGlynn were named senior and junior girls basketball MVPs for their respective District 8 champion squads.
Resurrection hosts the District 8 vs. District 10 all-star game in Kitchener on Nov. 28 starting at 6 p.m. The seniors tip off at 8 p.m. Admission to the games is $2.
The District 8 first all-star team also includes Resurrection’s Marley Niescier, St. Mary’s Sydney Greulich and Alysha Hergott, Woodland Christian’s Rebekah Oosterhof and St. Benedict’s Hilary Ferguson.
The senior second team includes Resurrection’s Angelika Jarski and Emma Higgins, Rockway’s Emma Kschensinski, St. Mary’s Laura Kay, Woodland Christian’s Rachel Guetter and St. Benedict’s Meaghan McFall.
First team junior all-stars include Resurrection’s Kelsey Caza, St. David’s Bobbi-Sue Hentges and Heather Sandall and St. Benedict’s Afifa Salad and Kayla Leusink.
The second team includes Resurrection’s Patricia Enrique, St. Mary’s Brittany Gulic, Rockway’s Emilie Vos, Woodland Christian’s Julianna Thomson, Pere Rene de Galinee’s Kristine Boileau and Monsignor Doyle’s Yasmeen Smith.
