It was a furious flurry.
Down by more than eight points with less than four minutes left in regulation, the Resurrection Phoenix stormed back to tie the undefeated host St. Benedict Saints Tuesday at St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School in Cambridge in the District 8 Athletic Association midget boys basketball championship game.
Only one shot would fall in two periods of overtime, however — one solitary free throw — as the defending-champion Saints scored a 37-36 nail-biting victory.
Sahil Hotwani had 11 points to lead Resurrection in the final, while Eddie Lman added six and forced overtime with a pair of clutch free throws. The team was so excited after the first basket, they forget to line up for the second.
Alex Garcia added eight and was named tournament MVP with 21 total points in the one-day tournament.
Mohamed Hajjo had nine points to lead the Saints, who finished the regular season and playoffs with an 8-0 record. Rocha added seven.
The Phoenix (5-3 in the regular season and playoffs) started the day with a 40-18 victory over the St. Mary’s Eagles, while the Saints powered past the St. David Celtics 45-10.
The Eagles won the third-place game 40-13.
