Gallery exhibit comes together under the public eye

Kitchener Post staff

For the first time, the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery is offering the public the chance for a behind-the-scenes look during the installation of artist Alyson Shotz’s work.

Her massive wall drawing, made of pins and thread, will be created on site. The public is invited to watch the creation come to life Sept. 9 to Sept. 12. Shotz’s work is one part of the new fall exhibit The Limits which explores ideas about time and space through the eyes of seven leading Canadian and contemporary artists. The exhibit includes drawing, sculpture, video and photography.

A second exhibit,We All Fall Down, pays tribute to the moments in life we often turn away from — aging and death. It has been curated with photographs, paintings, drawings and sculptures from KWAG’s 4,000 piece permanent collection.

An opening reception for both exhibits takes place Sept. 23. Sponsored by BMO Financial Group, the evening begins with an artist talk by David Spriggs at 7 p.m. followed by opening remarks at 8 p.m.

Admission to KWAG, located at Centre in the Square, 101 Queen St. N., is always free and everyone is welcome to attend these events.
